The Katong Walking Food Tour is a delightful exploration of Singapore’s Katong district, known for its vibrant Peranakan (Nonya) culture and cuisine. This 3.5-hour tour offers an immersive experience into the unique blend of Chinese and Malay culinary traditions.
Participants will explore the charming streets of Katong and Joo Chiat, tasting a variety of dishes that showcase the area’s rich heritage. The tour includes visits to local eateries and food stalls, where guests can sample Peranakan specialties such as laksa, a spicy noodle soup; kueh pie tee, a thin and crispy pastry tart shell filled with a spicy, sweet mixture of thinly sliced vegetables and prawns; and otak-otak, a grilled fish cake made of ground fish meat mixed with tapioca starch and spices.
In addition to the food tastings, participants will learn about the history and culture of the Peranakan community in Singapore. The tour provides insights into the architectural styles, traditional clothing, and unique customs of the Peranakans.
