Street food itinerary

Begin your epicurean experience at Monastiraki Square, in front of the Byzantiune church in the middle of the square. Here, you’ll convene with your guide and small group, and embark on a street food tour of Athens. Awaken your palate with a cup of rich and roasted Greek coffee and a fresh koulouri, whose sweet pastry and crispy sesame seeds are sure to make your mouth water.

We start our experience from Monastiraki square, where our guide will be waiting for you in front of this little medieval church with its tower bell. We’ll explore some of the city’s Roman, medieval and Ottoman past before beginning our tour with an authentic Greek coffee – Greeks are known for their love of socialising over a cup – and a fresh koulouri from one of Athena’s oldest bakeries. For those with a sweet tooth, hot loukoumades drizzled in honey and cinnamon are an absolute must-try!

We’ll then stroll around Central Market (or Varvakios) where we’ll sample Greek olives, herbs, honey and fresh produce before heading to Psirri; once a working-class district but now one of Athens’ most alternative neighborhoods. Then it’s off to the public market (or Varvakios), where we can indulge some more in all kinds of local delicacies before finishing up at the famous Roman Agora; still used as a marketplace since the mid 19th century. Here we’ll have a taste of Greek souvlaki and lukumades smothered in honey and cinnamon before concluding our culinary journey through Athens!
