Fes Food Tour – the destination

Located between the slopes of the Middle Atlas and the fertile plains of the Saïs, Fez fascinates by its overall harmony and the magnificent state of conservation of its old medieval center. Medersas, princely gardens, palaces, fondouks (caravanserais) testify to an intense and ancient activity. It is one of the great cities of Islam, on a par with Damascus, Cordoba, Alexandria… A commercial crossroads, it is also a radiant Sufi center. Listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site, the medina of Fez unfolds an almost inextricable network of winding streets, interspersed with stairways and covered passages. The colors of the souk, the Sufi rhythms, the smells of tanned skins, the heady aroma of oriental perfumes, the sweet texture of pastries, the city awakens the senses. On the way we pass the Andalusian quarter, the tanners, the dyers, the coppersmiths and the Seffarine square, the Al Quarouiyine university which houses the oldest mosque in Africa, the Moulay Idriss mausoleum, the founder of the city, the Nejjarine square, the museum of the wood crafts, the old Rsif market, the blue door of the medina: a huge cultural density.
